Measurement of the voltage drop at open circuit due to the series resistance of a working and counter electrode pair in an electrochemical test strip provides error detection for multiple variations in the quality of the test strip, as well as the operation of strip in the test meter. In particular, a single measurement of voltage drop can be used to detect and generate an error message when an incorrect reading is likely to result due to (1) damaged electrode tracks, (2) fouled electrode surfaces, (3) dirty strip contacts, or (4) short circuit between the electrodes.

Selon l'invention, la mesure de la résistance en série d'une électrode de travail et d'une contre-électrode dans une bande d'essai électrochimique engendre une détection d'erreur visant plusieurs variations de la qualité de ladite bande d'essai, ainsi que le fonctionnement de la bande dans le contrôleur d'essai. Notamment, une seule mesure de la résistance en série peut être utilisée pour détecter et engendrer un message d'erreur, lorsqu'une lecture incorrecte est probable de se produire, en raison (1) de voies d'électrode endommagées, (2) de surfaces d'électrodes encrassées, (3) de contacts de bandes sales ou (4) d'un court-circuit entre les électrodes.
