The composite label web is fed toward a delaminator at which the supporting material for the labels is caused to undergo a sharp change in direction. The supporting material is provided with two columns of slits or cuts. The slits or cuts are disposed at longitudinally spaced apart locations, and the slit or cuts of one column are laterally offset from the slits or cuts of the other column.
