It is found that a knockout mouse having a lost S1-5 gene function can induce an aging-related disease or condition. In the knockout mouse, it is found that the bone mineral content, the bone density and the bone strength are reduced and that the number of osteoclasts in the bone tissue is increased. As a result of the analysis on the ability to form osteoclasts using bone marrow cells derived from the knockout mouse, it is found that the knockout mouse is increased in the ability to form osteoclasts and also is increased in size of osteoclasts compared to a wild-type mouse. When purified S1-5 protein is added to the in vitro system, it is found that the ability to form osteoclasts is reduced. Further, when purified S1-5 protein is administered to an osteoporosis model mouse, it is found that the S1-5 protein can ameliorate osteoporosis. These findings indicate that S1-5 protein is useful for the treatment or prevention of an aging-related disease such as osteoporosis.

L~invention concerne la découverte selon laquelle une souris knock-out présentant une perte de la fonction du gène S1-5 peut induire une maladie ou un état lié au vieillissement.
