Provided is an improved sorter assembly (12) that is capable of directly receiving articles (17) from multiple upstream sources (14a, 14b) and directly sorting to multiple downstream destinations (16a-16d), and that can sort a wide variety of articles (17), including heavy, bulky articles (17). The sorter assembly (12) includes a carrying conveyor (26) having a conveying surface (28) that carries the articles (17) being sorted. The carrying conveyor (26) carries articles (17) in a longitudinal direction between an upstream end (30) and a downstream end (32) of the carrying conveyor (26). The sorter assembly (12) also includes a diverter (40) that extends perpendicularly from and moves across the conveying surface (28) to define a plurality of diverting orientations (112, 115, 116, 118, 120, 122). While the articles are being conveyed by the carrying conveyor (26), the diverter (40) engages and directs the articles (17) at least partially laterally across the conveying surface (28) toward the articles' destinations (16a-16d). The diverter (40) pivots about an axis (42, 48) of rotation that is perpendicular to the conveying surface (28), and that axis of rotation (42, 48) can be moved laterllay across the conveying surface (28). The axis of rotation (42, 48) of the diverter (40) can also be moved to be proximate to or between the opposite ends (30, 32) of the diverter (40). The diverter (40) can also translate across the conveying surface (28). The ability to translate, rotate and move the axis (42, 48) of rotation allows a single diverter (40) to easily and efficiently divert from multiple upstream sources (14) to multiple downstream destinations (16).
L'invention concerne un ensemble trieuse perfectionné (12) pouvant directement recevoir des articles (17) à partir de plusieurs sources amont (14a, 14b) et les trier vers plusieurs destinations aval (16a-16d), ce tri pouvant concerner une grande diversité d'articles (17), notamment des articles lourds et encombrants (17). Cet ensemble trieuse (12) comprend une bande de transport (26) présentant une surface (28) de transport des articles (17) en cours de triage. Cette bande (26) transporte des articles (17) dans un sens longitudinal entre son extrémité amont (30) et son extrémité aval (32). L'ensemble trieuse (12) comprend également un déviateur (40), lequel s'étend perpendiculairement à partir de la surface de transport (28) et se déplace en travers de celle-ci, afin de déterminer plusieurs sens de déviation (112, 115, 116, 118, 120, 122). Lors de l'acheminement des articles par la bande de transport (26), le déviateur (40) entre en contact avec les articles (17) et oriente ceux-ci au moins partiellement latéralement à travers la surface de transport (28) en direction des destinations aval (16a-16d) des articles. Ce déviateur (40) pivote autour d'un axe (42, 48) de rotation, perpendiculaire à la surface de transport (28), cet axe (42, 48) pouvant également être déplacé latéralement à travers la surface de transport (28). Il est également possible de déplacer l'axe de rotation (42, 48) du déviateur (40) afin de le placer à proximité des extrémités opposées (30, 32) du déviateur (40), ou entre celles-ci. Le déviateur (40) peut également se translater à travers de la surface de transport (28). La faculté qu'a ce seul déviateur (40) de se translater, de pivoter et de déplacer son axe de rotation (46, 48) lui permet de se dévier de manière facile et efficace à partir de plusieurs sources amont (14) vers plusieurs destinations aval (16).
