The invention relates to a method for converting binary information into a constrained binary channel signal. The binary information is converted according to a channel code C1 and a channel code C1 into m1-bit channel words, the concatenated channel words obeying the run length constraints of the binary channel signal. The channel words are selected from sets of channel words, each set comprising only channel words having specific begin parts. The invention relates to a device for encoding, a signal comprising a stream of data bits of a constrained binary channel signal, a record carrier and a device for decoding.
Selon cette invention, on prend une suite de bits de donn~es d'un signal binaire et on la d~coupe en mots d'information de n bits. On convertit ces mots d'information en mots de canal de m´1? bits selon un code canal C´1?, ou en mots de canal de m´2? bits selon un code canal C´2?. Dans ce cas, m´1?, m´2? et n sont des entiers tels que m´2? > m´1? >= n. Le mot de canal de m´2? bits est choisi parmi au moins deux mots de canal de m´2? bits, dont deux au moins sont de parit~s oppos~es, la concat~nation des mots de canal de m´1? bits et des mots de canal de m´2? bits respectant les contraintes de longueur du signal de canal binaire. L'~tat de codage du code canal C´1? est fix~ en fonction d'une partie finale du mot de canal pr~c~dent. L'~tat de codage du code canal C´2? est fix~ en fonction d'une partie finale du mot de canal pr~c~dent.
