A hydrofoil craft has a hull supported above a water surface by a foil connected to the hull by means of support arm. In accordance with one form of the invention, the support arm enables the foil to move up and down with respect to the hull in concert with upgusts of water surrounding the foil so as to maintain the hull at an approximately constant elevation. In accordance with another form of the invention, the support arm is supported by the hull for pivoting about a longitudinal axis extending in substantially the fore and aft direction of the hull. When rolling forces act on the foil the support arm can pivot about the axis from a vertical position in response to the rolling forces while enabling the hull to remain substantially level.
Hydroptère (10) dont la coque (12) est supportée au-dessus d'une surface d'eau par une lame (20) couplée à la coque (12) par un bras de support (16). Dans une première forme de réalisation de l'invention, le bras de support (16) permet à la lame (20) de monter et descendre par rapport à la coque (12) en même temps que les rafales d'eau montantes et descendantes qui entourent la lame (20), afin que la coque (12) se maintienne à une hauteur presque constante. Dans une deuxième forme de réalisation, le bras de support (161) est supporté par la coque (110) de manière à pivoter autour d'un axe longitudinal (114) qui s'étend sensiblement dans le sens longitudinal (de l'avant vers l'arrière) de la coque. Lorsque des forces de roulis s'exercent sur la lame (160), le bras de support peut pivoter autour de l'axe depuis une position verticale en réponse aux forces de roulis, tout en permettant à la coque (110) de rester sensiblement horizontale.
