ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a catheterization system which incorporates impregnating a pharmaceutical into a catheter by contacting the catheter with a volatile solvent or swelling agent at or near supercritical conditions of the swelling agent with a mixture of the pharmaceutical and the swelling agent. The catheter is capable of providing prolonged protection of localized tissue areas.
