ABSTRACT It has been discovered that by polymerizing several alkyl methacrylates and N,N-dialkylaminoalkyl methacrylamide monomers and controlling the component weight ratio, a novel polymer with surprising properties when used as an additive for hydrocarbon lubricating oils can be produced. The polymer of this invention demonstrates superior properties as a viscosity index improver and a detergent dispersant and, in some instances, eliminates the need for a pour point depressant.
