This invention relates to the removal, in polluted water, of nutrients (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate), the breakdown of polyaromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons and the entrapment of metals. This is done through the controlled growth of aquatic microphytes in media in water channels. These plants strip the aforementioned contaminents from polluted water.
