ABSTRACT Amidino sulphonic acid compounds of the formula Image where Het is a nitrogen-containing 5 or 6 membered heterocyclic group, Z is sulphur or methylene, n is 2 or 3 and R is hydrogen, lower alkyl or Het CH2Z(CH2)n have activity as histamine H2-receptor antagonists and are the ingredients of pharmaceutical compositions. The compounds are prepared by primary amine coupling reactions. Compounds of the invention where Z is a methylene group can also be prepared by reacting the corresponding thiourea or sulphinic acid with an oxidising agent.
