A composition and method for enhancing transdermal penetration of a basic drug are described. The composition comprises a matrix patch comprising an effective amount of a basic drug, preferably having a pKa of about 8.0 or greater, an effective amount of a penetration enhancer consisting essentially of triacetin, and a polymer layer preferably comprising a pressure-sensitive adhesive. A preferred basic drug is oxybutynin and acid addition salts thereof. The method for enhancing transdermal penetration comprises applying the matrix patch to a selected area of skin.

Composition et méthode permettant de renforcer la pénétration transdermique d'un médicament de base. Cette composition est conditionnée dans un pansement renfermant une quantité efficace d'un médicament de base, présentant de préférence un pK¿a? d'environ 8,0 ou plus, une quantité efficace d'un stimulant de pénétration constituée essentiellement de triacétine, et une couche polymère renfermant de préférence un adhésif opérant par pression. Le médicament de base de préférence est de l'oxybutynine et les sels additifs acides de cette substance. La méthode de stimulation de la pénétration transdermique consiste à appliquer ce pansement sur une certaine région de la peau.
