The present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and concerns a method for improving plant growth characteristics relative to wild type plants. More specifically, the present invention concerns a method for increasing yield in plants grown under reduced nutrient availability, relative to corresponding wild type plants,comprising modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid sequence encoding a class I homeodomain leucine zipper (HDZip) hox5 polypeptide or a homologue thereof.

Cette invention a trait d'une manière générale au domaine de la biologie moléculaire et concerne un procédé permettant d'améliorer des caractéristiques de croissance des végétaux par rapport aux végétaux correspondants de type sauvage. De manière plus spécifique, cette invention concerne un procédé permettant d'augmenter le rendement des végétaux cultivés dans un milieu nutritif appauvri, par rapport à leurs homologues de type sauvage, ledit procédé comprenant la modulation de l'expression dans une plante d'une séquence d'acide nucléique codant un polypeptide hox5 de glissière à leucine d'homéodomaine de classe I (HDZip) ou un homologue de celui-ci.
