Sleeve apparatus for a phacoemulsification/irrigation and aspiration handpiece includes an elongate sleeve having a proximal and a distal end with a sleeve establishing an annular passage around a needle enabling irrigation fluid to pass into the eye through the passage and into the eye while cooling the needle. The elongate sleeve includes a hub disposed a proximal end for enabling attachment of the sleeve to the handpiece and a port disposed approximate the distal end and in fluid communication with the annular passage is provided for introducing irrigation fluid into the eye. An internal circumferential berm, disposed between the port and the distal end is provided to reduce flow of the irrigation fluid therepast, to provide rigidity to the distal end of the sleeve and concomitantly provide limited contact with the needle in order to produce thermal transfer therebetween.
L'invention concerne une gaine destinée à un instrument à main de phaco-émulsification/irrigation et d'aspiration, comprenant une gaine allongée possédant une extrémité proximale et une extrémité distale, une gaine formant un passage annulaire autour d'une aiguille afin de permettre au fluide d'irrigation de passer dans l'oeil, à travers le passage et dans l'oeil pendant le refroidissement de l'aiguille. La gaine allongée comprend un centre placé au niveau de l'extrémité proximale, permettant la fixation de la gaine à l'instrument, et un orifice situé près de l'extrémité distale et en communication fluidique avec le passage annulaire permet d'introduire le fluide d'irrigation dans l'oeil. Une berme circonférentielle interne, située entre l'orifice et l'extrémité distale, permet de réduire l'écoulement du fluide d'irrigation qui la traverse, confère une certaine rigidité à l'extrémité distale de la gaine et assure en même temps un contact limité avec l'aiguille afin d'obtenir un transfert thermique entre elles.
