A tool (10) for gripping, clamping or holding an object (17, 19), wherein the tool has a handle portion (16), a linkage portion (24, 25, 26, 27, 30, 31, 32, 33) and a working portion (20, 22), and wherein the working portion includes two workpiece contacting surfaces (21, 23), at least one of the surfaces shaped to generally conform to at least a portion of the outer surface of a workpiece to be clamped, gripped or held. In some embodiments, at least one of the workpiece contacting surfaces is adapted to provide a treatment to a workpiece being clamped, gripped or held.
