In an optical fiber 1 having a core region 3 and a cladding region 5 which surrounds the core region 3, wherein a plurality of regions made of sub mediums 2 having refractive index different from that of the main medium 4 constituting the cladding region 5 are spaced apart in cross section of the cladding region 5 and the mean refractive index of the core region 3 is lower than that of the cladding region 5, the sub-medium regions 2 are regularly arranged in the radial direction of the optical fiber 1 such that the light having given wavelength, propagation coefficient and electric field distribution propagates along the fiber axis and has not less than 50 % of a total propagating power in the core region 3, and this arrangement does not have translational symmetry in cross section.

La présente invention concerne une fibre optique (1) qui possède une âme (3) et un gainage (5) entourant cette âme (3). Une pluralité de régions constituées de sous supports (2) possédant un indice de réfraction différent de celui du support 4 principal qui constitue le gainage (5) sont espacés dans la section transversale de ce gainage (5), et l'indice de réfraction moyen de l'âme (3) est inférieur à celui du gainage (5). Les régions (2) de sous supports sont agencées de façon régulière dans le sens radial de cette fibre (1) optique de façon que la lumière possédant une longueur d'onde, un coefficient de propagation et une distribution de champs électrique donnés se propage le long de l'axe de la fibre et qu'elle ne concentre pas moins de 50 % de sa puissance totale de propagation dans l'âme (3). Cet agencement ne présente pas de symétrie de translation dans sa section transversale.
