Delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic agents to skin or solid tumours is improved by optimisation of the lipid containing macromolecular structures (e.g. liposomes) encapsulating the agents and the type and amount of hydrophilic moieties bound to the exterior of the macromolecular structures as well as the relative proportions of the various lipids or other hydrophobic entities forming the macromolecular structures.
