There is disclosed a process for the preparation of a lower alkyl ester of 3-(2-chlor-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-en-1- yl)-2,2-dimethlcyclopropane carboxylic acid which comprises the steps of (a) reacting a compound of the formula (I): CF3-CXC1-CH(OH)-CH=C(CH3)2, wherein X is chloro or bromo, with a tri-lower-alkyl orthoacetate containing up to four carbon atoms in each alkyl group in tho presence of at least a catalytic amount of an acid catalyst at an elevated temperature for a sufficient time to obtain a compound of the formula (III): CF3-CXC1-CH=CH-C(CH3)2-CH2CO2R, wherein R is an alkyl group containing up to four carbon atoms, and (b) treating said compound of formula (III) with at least one molar equivalent of a base to obtain said alkyl ester of 3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-en-1-yl)-2,2-dimethycyclopropane carboxylic acid. The products are useful as intermediates for insecticides.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de préparation d'un ester alkyle inférieur d'acide 3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-en-1-yl)-2,2-diméthylcyclopropane carboxylique, consistant: a) à mettre en réaction un composé de la formule (I): CF3-CXC1-CH(OH)-CH=C(CH3)2, dans laquelle X représente chloro ou bromo, avec un orthoacétate de tri-alkyle inférieur contenant jusqu'à quatre atomes de carbone dans chacun des groupes alkyle, en présence d'au moins une quantité catalytique d'un catalyseur acide, à une température élevée et suffisamment longtemps pour obtenir un composé de la formule (III): CF3-CXC1-CH=CH-C(CH3)2-CH2CO2R, dans laquelle R représente un groupe alkyle contenant jusqu'à quatre atomes de carbone, et b) à traiter ledit composé de la formule (III) à l'aide d'au moins un équivalent molaire d'une base afin d'obtenir ledit ester alkyle d'acide 3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-en-1-yl)-2,2-diméthylcyclopropane carboxylique. Ces produits pouvent être utilisés comme intermédiaires pour des insecticides.
