AN IMPROVED SYNTHESIS OF DIETHYNYLBENZENE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for making diethynylbenzene by a "one-pot" reaction in which mixed isomers of divinylbenzene (DVB) and bromine are combined in a solvent consisting of sulfolane, at a rate that does not cause the temperature of the reaction to rise above 50°C., the intermediate brominated product is dehydrobrominated, and diethynylbenzene is separated from the dehydrobromination reaction mixture, is disclosed.
