Abstract of the Disclosure The invention concerns a process and a device for converting the data structure of messages in a packet- switching system, in which the messages are inserted into cell-oriented data structures as well as also appearing in a frame-oriented data structure, where time slots of a cell that has been converted into a frame, are always arranged in specified locations of successive frames. To guarantee a favorable probability distribution with respect to the occurrence of delays during the conversion of cells and frames by means of a memory matrix (19) arranged into a conversion unit, an address logic (17) determines the optimum position of the actual time slot (12) to be stored in the memory matrix (19), and a corresponding memory pointer is established for memory control. The invention is applicable above all in packet-switching systems for the transmission of data. 22
