An emulsion explosive emulsifying agent comprising a first lipophilic group, a second lipophilic group and a hydrophilic group, all of which are connected to a linking group, wherein said second lipophilic group has more than one olefinic unsaturation in its hydrocarbon chain. Preferred compounds of the present invention have the structure shown in Formula IA: Formula IA Image wherein L1 is a first lipophilic chain, L~ is a second, unsaturated lipophilic chain having an olefinic unsaturated level greater than 1, R is hydrogen or a hydrophilic group, and n is ~ 1, and m ~ 0. The emulsifying agent allows emulsion explosives having improved stability to be produced.
