A method is presented for generating a probability map, a cutoff map, and a confidence limit map in one single operation (16). The new method can also generate a cube representing a cubic volume of earth formation by using the same method for generating the aforementioned maps. This is accomplished by: gridding a cross section (22); Kriging the gridded cross section (24) thereby producing a plurality of expected values and a corresponding plurality of standard deviation; generating a plurality of probability density functions (26); integrating each of the probability density functions (28) thereby generating a plurality of cumulative distribution functions; choosing a value from each of the cumulative distribution functions (35) associated with each of the intersections of the gridded cross section; and assigning such value, and a unique color, to its associated intersection of the gridded cross section, thereby generating a map illustrating the characteristics of the cross section through the earth formation.
Cette invention a trait à une nouvelle méthode de production de projection de probabilités, de projection de coupures et de projection de limites de certitude en une seule opération (16). Cette nouvelle méthode permet également de produire un cube représentant un volume cubique d'une formation terrestre grâce aux techniques permettant de produire les projections susmentionnées. La méthode comporte les opérations suivantes : quadrillage d'une section transversale (22), krigeage de cette section quadrillée (24), ce qui permet de produire plusieurs valeurs escomptées et plusieurs écarts standards, production de plusieurs fonctions de distribution de probabilités (26), intégration de chacune de celles-ci (28), ce qui permet de produire plusieurs fonctions cumulatives de distribution, choix d'une valeur à partir de chaque fonction cumulative de distribution (35) associée à chaque intersection de la section transversale quadrillée et attribution de cette valeur et d'une seule couleur à l'intersection respective associée de la section transversale quadrillée, ce qui permet de réaliser une projection illustrant les caractéristiques de la section transversale de la formation terrestre.
