A downhole separator has a housing defining an interior cavity divided into a first chamber and a second chamber by a flow restricting bearing housing. A shaft driven impeller pumps production fluid into the first chamber and to the bearing housing. The bearing housing generates a pressure drop in production fluid entering the second chamber, separating gas from liquid. A vortex generator in the second chamber segregates the liquid to the outside and the gas to the inside of the second chamber. A downhole separation method includes pumping production fluid into a first chamber, and generating a pressure drop in the fluid as the fluid enters a second chamber to separate gas and liquid.

L'invention concerne un séparateur de fond présentant un logement définissant une cavité intérieure, divisée en une première chambre et une seconde chambre par un logement de support de restriction de débit. Une turbine commandée par un arbre pompe le fluide de production dans la première chambre et vers le logement de support. Ledit logement de support produit une chute de pression dans le fluide de production entrant dans la seconde chambre, séparant ainsi le gaz du liquide. Un générateur de tourbillons, situé dans la seconde chambre, répartit le liquide à l'extérieur et le gaz à l'intérieur de la seconde chambre. Ledit procédé de séparation de fond comprend le pompage du liquide de production dans la première chambre et la production d'une chute de pression dans le fluide, lorsque le fluide entre dans la seconde chambre, ceci permettant de séparer le gaz du liquide.
