A cooled lump for high-purity polycrystalline silicon raw material that can be appropriately used in the production of crystalline silicon ingot for solar cell; and a process for producing the same. There is provided a cooled lump from molten silicon, produced by causing molten silicon to fall into and to be received by a receiving container, which cooled lump contains bubbles and exhibits (i) an apparent density of 1.5 to 2.2 g/cm3 and (ii) a compressive strength of 5 to 50 MPa. Further, there is provided a process for producing a cooled lump from molten silicon, comprising causing molten silicon to fall into and to be received by a receiving container, wherein the receiving container for receiving molten silicon has a surface temperature of 0~ to 1000~C and wherein molten silicon is received by the receiving container at a rate of 1×10-3 to 5×10-1 g/sec cm2.

De plus, il est fourni un procédé pour la fabrication d~une boule refroidie de silicium fondu, comprenant le fait de faire tomber du silicium fondu réceptionné dans un contenant de réception, où le contenant de réception pour la réception du silicium fondu a une température de surface de 0· à 1 000 ·C et où le silicium fondu est réceptionné par le contenant de réception à une vitesse de 1×10?-3¿ à 5×10?-1¿ g/s cm2.
