An assembly or system which is capable of heating water by the sun's energy in an arrangement that circulates the water from a holding tank through the focal point of a solar reflector dish. The Problem The largest single cost for domestic energy is often the energy used in heating water in a hot water tank. Solar energy has been used to provide space and water heating but often meets limitations and inefficiencies in energy transfer in that the temperature of the water in the solar energy collector is not much above ambient temperature. (The laws Thermodynamics state that heat flows from a hot substance to a cooler one in a rate governed by the difference in temperature, hence the higher the temperature difference, the greater the rate of heat transfer attainable.) The invention described herein is a system in which the collector of solar thermal energy is a smooth-surfaced reflector dish, similar in shape to a TV satellite dish, which concentrates the solar energy at a focal point thus giving rise to a temperature that is significantly higher than that with plate or trough or other conventional types of solar energy collectors, and which can thus transfer the solar energy to the circulating medium - water, air or other fluid - with a significant increase in heat transfer capability.
