A Bayard-Alpert gas pressure measuring gauge with x-ray effect neutralization comprising collector and shield electrodes that comprise the same substantially inert electrically conductive substances. Said inert substance may be gold or another substance from the group consisting of platinum and rhodium, and mixtures thereof, and alloys comprising gold, platinum or rhodium; or said substance may be selected from the group consisting of the oxides of indium, chromium, vanadium and tin, mixtures thereof, and alloys comprising one of these. An electrical potential is applied to the shield that is more negative than the potential applied to the collector, said potential on the shield being in the range from about zero volts to about -50 volts when the collector is operated at a positive potential. Said negative potential with respect to the collector enhances the reverse x-ray effect for cancellation of the forward x-ray effect in the gauge. The gauge may also comprise a modified collector geometry to further enhance the reverse x-ray effect to achieve neutralization of the total x-ray effect. A method for neutralization of the x-ray effect by modulating the shield potential is also disclosed.
On décrit un manomètre Bayard-Alpert de pression du gaz pouvant neutraliser l'effet des rayons X. Le manomètre comprend un collecteur et des électrodes de blindage contenant les mêmes substances conductrices sensiblement inertes. Lesdites substances inertes peuvent être de l'or ou une autre substance sélectionnée dans le groupe constitué par platine ou rhodium ou leurs mélanges, ou des alliages contenant de l'or, de la platine ou du rhodium; ces substances peuvent également être sélectionnées dans le groupe constitué par des oxydes d'indium, de chromium, de vanadium et d'étain, ou leurs mélanges, ou des alliages contenant un de ces éléments. Une tension électrique est appliquée sur le blindage et cette tension est moins négative que celle appliquée sur le collecteur. La tension électrique appliquée sur le blindage se situe dans une plage comprise entre environ zéro et -50 volts lorsque le collecteur fonctionne à une tension positive. La tension négative par rapport au collecteur augmente l'effet contraire des rayons X en vue d'annuler l'effet direct des rayons X dans le manomètre. Le manomètre peut également comprendre une géométrie modifiée du collecteur qui augmente encore l'effet contraire des rayons X et neutralise l'effet total des rayons X. On décrit en outre un procédé de neutralisation de l'effet des rayons X par modulation de la tension du blindage.
