A paper coating composition is provided, comprising a polyvinyl alcohol graft copolymer comprising at least one side-chain polymer, formed from at least one carboxylic acid containing monomer, grafted onto a polyvinyl alcohol; and a further component selected from the group consisting of binders, thickeners and combinations thereof. The graft copolymer unexpectedly provides superior viscosification and water retention compared to results using a blend of the PVOH and carboxylated polymer where the two polymers were formed in the absence of one another.

La présente invention concerne une composition de revêtement de papier comprenant un copolymère greffé dalcool polyvinylique comprenant au moins un polymère à chaîne latérale, formé à partir dau moins un monomère contenant un acide carboxylique, greffé sur un alcool polyvinylique ; et un autre composant sélectionné dans un groupe constitué par des liants, des épaississants et leurs combinaisons. Le copolymère greffé assure contre toute attente une viscosification supérieure et une conservation de leau supérieure par comparaison aux résultats obtenus à laide dun mélange dalcool polyvinylique et de polymère carboxylé à lendroit où les deux polymères ont été formés en labsence de lun lautre.
