ABSTRACT An optical cable comprises a plurality of separately formed tubes of rubber or plastics material in each of at least some of which one or more than one optical bundle or separately optical fibre is or are loosely housed. An outer protective sheath surrounds the plurality of tubes. Preferably the tubes are arranged in at least one layer around an elongate central core which may be a reinforcing member, a tube loosely housing an optical bundle or fibre, or at least one electric conductor. Reinforcing members may be embedded in the sheath. - 1 -
