An intraocular lens system including one or more intraocular lenses (IOL) (12) and a peripheral holder (10). The peripheral holder (10) is configured to receive and retain the distal end of a fixation member (26) of the IOL (12) and provide a dynamic in-terface betweeen the natural capsular bag (16) and fixation member (26). The holder (10) is preferably annular and flexible and transmits movement of the capsular bag (16) from the surrounding ciliary muscles (18) to the IOL (12). In this manner, a circumferential surface contact with the capsular bag (16) is provided and accomodation of the IOL (12) is improved. If two IOLs are received in the holder, a spacer may be provided to insure consistent spacing between the IOLs. Alternatively, an IOL system may include two IOLs and a spacer, without the holder. The holder desirably includes a sharp exterior corner to inhibit cell growth and posterior capsular opacification.

L'invention concerne un système de lentilles intra-oculaires comprenant une ou plusieurs lentilles intra-oculaires (LIO) et un support périphérique. Ce support périphérique est conçu pour recevoir et pour retenir l'extrémité distale d'un élément de fixation de la LIO et pour fournir une interface dynamique entre le sac capsulaire naturel et l'élément de fixation. Ce support est de préférence annulaire et flexible et permet la transmission du mouvement des muscles ciliaires environnants de l'oeil au sac capsulaire. Ce système permet ainsi d'obtenir un contact de surface circonférentiel avec le sac capsulaire et une mise en place améliorée de la LIO. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, ce système de LIO peut comprendre deux lentilles intra-oculaires et un élément de séparation, sans le support. Le support comprend avantageusement un angle externe aigu permettant d'inhiber la croissance cellulaire et l'opacification capsulaire ultérieure.
