A method of forming a cast component (10) to have particular NVH characteristics. The method includes selecting an insert (14, 15) for integral casting with the cast component (10), the insert (14, 15) being one which is of a material capable of altering the NVH characteristics of the cast component (10), which can be infiltrated by molten metal during casting and which has characteristics that can be altered by alteration of the composition of the insert material. The method includes determining the material composition required to achieve the desired NVH characteristics and further includes determining the appropriate position (14, 15) for the insert to be inserted into the cast component (10) and casting the insert (14, 15) into the component (10) in that position.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'une pièce coulée (10) présentant des caractéristiques NVH particulières. Le procédé comporte l'étape consistant à sélectionner un insert (14, 15) pour en réaliser le coulage d'un seul tenant avec la pièce coulée (10), l'insert (14, 15) étant constitué d'un matériau capable de modifier les caractéristiques NVH de la pièce coulée (10), susceptible d'être infiltré par du métal en fusion durant le coulage et présentant des caractéristiques qui peuvent être modifiées par altération de sa composition. Le procédé comporte également les étapes consistant à déterminer la composition du matériau requise pour obtenir les caractéristiques NVH recherchées, à déterminer la position appropriée de l'insert (14, 15) à insérer dans la pièce coulée (10) et à couler l'insert (14, 15) dans la pièce (10) dans cette position.
