A method of leaching a metal value from a heap of a metal-containing ore and a heap leaching operation are disclosed. The method includes establishing a downward flow of a leach liquor through a section of the heap by supplying the leach liquor onto a top surface of the section and allowing the leach liquor (containing metal values in solution) to drain from a lower part of the section. The method is characterised by supplying the leach liquor onto the top surface of the section at a flow rate that is sufficient so that the downwardly flowing leach liquor saturates the section of the heap.

L'invention concerne un procédé de lixiviation d'un métal précieux à partir d'un tas de minerai contenant du métal, ainsi qu'une opération de lixiviation en tas. Ce procédé consiste à produire un écoulement vers le bas d'une liqueur lixiviante à travers une partie du tas, par apport de celle-ci sur une surface supérieure (3) de cette partie et par évacuation de ladite liqueur lixiviante (qui contient les métaux précieux en solution) depuis une partie inférieure de ladite partie. Ledit procédé est caractérisé en ce que l'apport de la liqueur lixiviante sur la surface supérieure de ladite partie est assuré à un débit suffisant pour que l'écoulement de liqueur lixiviante vers le bas fasse saturer la partie du tas.
