The invention relates to a proton-conducting polymer electrolyte membrane which is based on polyvinylphosphonic acid/polyvinylsulfonic acid polymers and can be used for a variety of purposes due to the excellent chemical and thermal properties thereof. The inventive membrane is particularly suitable as a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) in PEM fuel cells.
