The invention provides methods and compositions for regulating weight and size in animals. In one embodiment a claim is directed to a diet composition for weight reduction in an animal comprising about 10% to about 30% glycine, glycine analogs or combinations thereof and about 70% to about 90% of a low- calorie diet, a low-fat diet, a low-carbohydrate diet, or a combination thereof. Glycine analogs are N-alkylated glycine or glycine amide or amino- methyl-sulfonic acid compounds of the following formula (I) wherein R1 and/or R2 can be a H; R1 and/or R2 can be a Me, Et or Pr; R1 and/or R2 can be a Bn; R1 and/or R2 can be (CH2)2-5.
