2080374 9115761 PCTABS00007 An aqueous sample containing methylenebisthiocyanate or another compound capable of releasing an aldehyde is assayed by determining the amount of aldehyde released by conversion, e.g. with respect to a sample from which existing aldehydes have been separated. An aqueous sample containing glutaraldehyde or another aldehyde having at least 2 C atoms is assayed by adding an agent which gives a water-insoluble complex, and determining the amount of complex or, after regeneration, the aldehyde.
