An electrical generating system is used for a horizontal directional drilling system. The drilling system has a gen-erally horizontal drill stem that rotates. A generator (4) has first and second components. The first component (4A) rotates with the drill stem, while the second component (4B) is able to rotate with respect to the first component. An eccentric mass (6) is rotatably mounted inside of the drill stem and is coupled to the second component (4B), wherein as the drill stem rotates, relative rotational motion is produced between the first and second components and the generator produces electrical power. The eccentric mass is mounted on two spaced apart mounting points (10) inside of the drill stem. The generator provides power to a sonde (2). The gen-erator is in a housing (8) which has flow channels (8E) that allow drilling fluid to flow through the drill stem.
L'invention porte sur un système de génération d'électricité qui est utilisé pour un système de forage directionnel horizontal. Le système de forage comprend une tige de forage généralement horizontale qui tourne. Le générateur (4) comporte des premier et second composants. Le premier composant (4A) tourne avec la tige de forage, alors que le second composant (4B) peut tourner par rapport au premier composant. Une masse excentrée (6) est montée rotative à l'intérieur de la tige de forage et est couplée au second composant (4B) et, à mesure que la tige de forage tourne, un mouvement de rotation relatif est produit entre les premier et second composants et le générateur produit de l'électricité. La masse excentrée est montée sur deux points de montage espacés (10) à l'intérieur de la tige de forage. Le générateur fournit de l'énergie électrique à une sonde (2).
