The invention relates to an ergonomic computer controller commonly called a mouse. To ease strain of the muscles of the hand and fingers, the mouse has a housing including various support surfaces for the palm, fingers and thumb of the user. The palm surface is tipped to the horizontal both transversely and longitudinally so that the exterior portion of the heel of the hand is adjacent to the surface on which the mouse is supported. The finger support surface for the middle finger is substantially vertical so that the middle finger when relaxed may hang substantially vertical. The button for generating control signals moves in a direction normal to the finger support surface so that no effort is required to keep the finger from operating the button. Similarly, the index finger is supported on a surface extending downwardly and outwardly with a button that moves normal to that surface. Advantageously, a button mounted on the thumb support surface moves in mutually orthogonal directions to create ~ x and y signals for controlling a computer screen display.
