2090241 9203209 PCTABS00010 A screening device for removing unwanted solid matter from channelled water flows (19, D). The device comprises an endless band conveyor for passing through the water flow (D) passing around a row of sprocket wheels (12) all of which drive the band. The band is provided with parallel rows of collecting teeth (1) rotatably mounted on support rods (2), and having arcuate collecting surfaces (8). The collecting teeth (1) are rigidly connected to link pieces (3) extending between the rods (2) which space the teeth (1) in each row one from the other to form gaps or slots (11) therebetween. As the band moves around the row of sprocket wheels (12) the teeth (13) thereof engage or mesh with the slots (11) to remove any material collected from the links (3) between the slots (11) and from the collecting teeth (1) by means of the tips (13') of the sprocket teeth (13) moving along and in close proximity to the arcuate collecting surfaces (8) of each row of collecting teeth (1).
