A homogeneous, amorphous catalyst support comprising a modifying-metal-oxide and a base-metal oxide, the catalyst support having a Surface to Bulk modifying-metal /base-metal atomic ratio of from about 0.6 to about 1.3 and exhibiting an X-ray diffraction having broader line width and lower intensity than is exhibited by the base-metal oxide is disclosed. More specifically, a homogeneous, amorphous silica-modified-alumina catalyst support useful in the Fischer-Tropsch process is disclosed. A silica-modified-alumina catalyst support of the present invention maintains the desirable properties of alumina and exhibits higher resistance to acid than unmodified alumina.

L'invention concerne un support de catalyseur amorphe, homogène, comprenant un oxyde métallique de modification et un oxyde métallique de base, le support de catalyseur présentant un rapport atomique surface/masse métal de modification/métal de base surface/volume compris entre environ 0,6 et environ 1,3 et présentant une diffraction des rayons X présentant une largeur de trait plus importante et une intensité inférieure à celle présentée par l'oxyde métallique de base. Plus spécifiquement, l'invention concerne un support de catalyseur à base d'alumine et de silice amorphe, homogène, utile dans le procédé Fischer-Tropsch. Le support de catalyseur à base d'alumine modifiée à l'aide de silice selon la présente invention conserve les propriétés souhaitables de l'alumine et présente une résistance plus élevée à l'acide que l'alumine non modifiée.
