A method for removing an occlusion includes the steps of introducing a transverse mode ultrasonic probe (22) into a blood vessel, positioning the probe (22) in proximity to the occlusion, and transmitting ultrasonic energy to the probe, until the occlusion is removed. The probe (22) has a small cross- sectional lumen and is articulable for navigating in a tortuous vessel path. The probe (22) can be used with acoustic and/or aspirations sheaths to enhance destruction and removal of an occlusion. The probe can also be used with a balloon catheter (91). The probe (22), sheaths (107,108,121), and catheter (91) are provided in a sharps container which has means for affixing and detaching the probe from an ultrasonic medical device (22).
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de suppression d'une occlusion qui consiste à introduire une sonde ultrasonore en mode transversal dans un vaisseau sanguin, à positionner la sonde à proximité de l'occlusion et à transmettre une énergie ultrasonore à la sonde jusqu'à suppression de l'occlusion. La sonde possède une lumière dotée d'une section transversale de faible dimension et elle est articulée de manière à pouvoir se déplacer le long d'un chemin de vaisseau tortueux. Cette sonde peut être utilisée avec des gaines acoustiques et/ou d'aspiration de manière à améliorer la destruction et le retrait d'une occlusion. Cette sonde peut être utilisée également avec un cathéter à ballonnets. La sonde, les gaines et le cathéter peuvent être inclus dans un étui pointu qui constitue par ailleurs un moyen permettant de fixer la sonde au dispositif médical ultrasonore et de l'en détacher.
