ABSTRACT A farrowing crate arrangement particularly suitable for the nursing and weaning of piglets includes at least two and preferably three farrowing crates arranged side by side. Each crate includes a circular wall having upper and lower edges and a number of rigid supports for holding the wall above a horizontal floor area so the lower edge is spaced a selected distance above the floor. A vertically extending divider extends upwardly from the floor area between each pair of farrowing crates and extends horizontally from a forward boundary or fence located in front of the crates to a rear boundary located rearwardly of the crates. Each divider has a height at least sufficient to bar movement of young animals over the divider and each has at least one movable section extending outside the crates. This section can be raised to permit two separate groups of young animals to intermingle. A front section of each crate is preferably hinged at the top of each end thereof so that this front section can be pivoted upwardly to allow access to the interior of the crate.
