A shaft furnace for melting solid copper into molten copper has so far been controlled by manual operation with reference to the actual storage quantity of the building furnace. The burner air pressure of each zone of the shaft furnace is controlled by the actual storage quantity and the time change of it using Fuzzy Logic. The temperature of the molten copper is adopted as another input signal. The proportion of burner air pressure of the zones is revised by the temperature of the molten copper. Automatic control based upon the present invention decreases the fluctuation of the storage quantity of the holding furnace.
