Intumescent material is maintained in a hermetically sealed state by enveloping it in water and water vapour impermeable enclosures. A firestop conduit section element is formed of an inner conduit of fusible material surrounded by intumescent material which is contained within a moisture impenetrable barrier. The ends of the conduit element are coupleable to exterior conduit systems.
