Dans une communication Internet entre un terminal 10 et un fournisseur de services Internet 8, un mode de transfert asynchrone (MTA) est utilisé. Chaque message MTA 35 doit être traité à chaque noeud du réseau 6. Dans la présente invention, on assemble en un seul paquet en bordure du réseau une pluralité de messages de données MTA 35 transmise d'un terminal 10 à un fournisseur de services Internet 8 tout en tenant à jour l'en-tête MTA 38. Ceci réduit la quantité de traitement nécessaire pour faire transiter les données dans le réseau 6 et, par conséquent, la charge imposée à ce réseau 6. Par ailleurs, les paquets peuvent être démultiplexés par le serveur de services Internet 6 qui peut alors reconstruire les messages MTA originels.
