A coin mechanism is provided with a magnetic release system, for selectively unlocking the coin mechanism when a coin or token having a magnetic component is inserted. A magnet is lodged in a rocker arm which is biased to a locked position in which a latch on the rocker arm engages a rotating member, preventing the rotating member from rotating. The attractive force of the magnet on a coin or token having a magnetic component and inserted into the coin mechanism is greater than the force biasing the rocker arm to the locked position, causing the rocker arm to move toward the coin which thus retracts the latch from the rotating member allowing the rotating member, and thus the mechanism, to rotate.
