ABSTRACT A novel derivative which is an ester of trimellitic anhydride or pyromellitic dianhydride, the derivative containing carboxyl and hydroxyl groups and comprising two mono-esters per derivative molecule of diols selected from alkylene glycols and dihydroxy est??? of such glycols with dicarboxylic acids. These derivatives have a minimum acid value of 40 mgm KOH per gm and when blended with a suitable cross-linking agent are useful as film-forming constituents of high-solids coating compositions.
