A de-convolution process is applied to an MR, CT or other image (25) of a scanned-object (23) to derive the point-spread function (22') at an object- edge and to pin-point from the mid-point of its full-width-half-maximum FWHM, the location (30) of the true image-edge. With the object-image (25') overlying the PSF function (22') in the de-convolution space, sub-pixels which follow location (30) are transferred to before it to re-construct the image- edge (25') for sharper conformity to the object-edge (23). Sharp definition of image-contour (37) facilitates accurate determination of area and volume of image profiles (35) and their segmentation. The accurate image-edge definition enables viable correction of geometrical distortion in stand-alone MR diagnosis and treatment planning.

On applique un procédé de déconvolution à une image (25) d'un objet balayé (23), que l'on produit par résonance magnétique, tomographie ou une autre technique, de manière à dériver la fonction d'étalement ponctuel (22') au niveau d'un bord-objet et à repérer à partir du point médian de sa demi-hauteur pleine-largeur (FWHM) l'emplacement (30) du véritable bord-image. Avec l'image-objet (25') qui se superpose à la fonction PSF (22') dans l'espace de déconvolution, les sous-pixels qui suivent l'emplacement (30) sont transférés à l'avant dudit emplacement en vue de la reconstruction du bord-image (25') de manière à obtenir une meilleure conformité avec le bord-objet (23). La définition précise du contour-image (37) permet d'effectuer une détermination précise de la surface et du volume des profils (35) d'images ainsi que leur segmentation. La définition précise des bords-images permet d'effectuer une correction viable de la distorsion géométrique dans un programme autonome de traitement et de diagnostic par résonance magnétique.
