The check processing system consists of a POS terminal to be installed at each shop, and a symbol reading/MIC printing apparatus to be installed only at a processing facility. At each shop, amount-of-money information is input to the POS terminal. The amount of money is printed on a check with a two-dimensional symbol. The check is sent to the amount-of-money input center after it is signed by a customer. Chucks are processed all together at the amount-of-money input center. The symbol reading/MIC printing apparatus recognizes an amount of money from a two-dimensional symbol and prints the amount of money on a check with magnetic ink characters.
