A shot-based video content analysis method and system is described for providing automatic recognition of logical story units (LSUs). The method employs vector quantization (VQ) to represent the visual content of a shot, following which a shot clustering algorithm is employed together with automatic determination of merging and splitting events. The method provides an automated way of performing the time-consuming and laborious process of organising and indexing increasingly large video databases such that they can be easily browsed and searched using natural query structures.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système d'analyse de contenu vidéo basés sur les plans et servant à produire une reconnaissance automatique d'unités historiques logiques (LSU). Ce procédé met en application une quantification vectorielle (VQ) afin de représenter le contenu visuel d'un plan, puis utilise ensuite un algorithme de groupement de plans associé à une détermination automatique de fusion ou de division d'événements. Ce procédé constitue un processus automatisé d'exécutions des tâches fastidieuses d'organisation et d'indexage de bases de données vidéo de plus en plus importantes, de manière à pouvoir les explorer sans difficultés au moyen de structures d'interrogation naturelles.
