A human epidermal differentiation factor polypeptide and DNA (RNA) encoding such polypeptide and a procedure for producing such polypeptide by recombinant techniques is disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for utilizing such polypeptide for treating and/or preventing skin diseases. Diagnostic assays for detecting mutations in a nucleic acid sequence encoding a polypeptide of the present invention and for detecting altered levels of the polypeptide of the present invention are also disclosed.

L'invention concerne un polypeptide facteur de différenciation épidermique chez l'homme et un ADN (ARN) codant un tel polypeptide, ainsi qu'un procédé pour produire un tel polypeptide selon des techniques de recombinaison. L'invention se rapporte en outre à des procédés d'utilisation d'un tel polypeptide pour le traitement curatif et/ou préventif de maladies de peau. L'invention a enfin pour objet des tests diagnostiques permettant de détecter des mutations dans une séquence d'acide nucléique codant un polypeptide selon la présente invention et de repérer des altérations du taux dudit polypeptide.
