A polymerization process is provided involving a carrier solution containing an organic solvent and a phosphite. The phosphite is highly soluble in the solvent and allows for an incorporation of a minimum of solvent in the carrier solution. The phosphite is of the formula: Image wherein Y1 is an alkyl and Y2 is selected from tert- butyl and sec-butyl. The process is useful for making polymers such as styrene-butadiene block copolymers which may then be molded to produce commercial articles or may be blended with other thermoplastics to enhance the impact strengths thereof.
