Abstract New amino sugar derivatives of the formula Image wherein R is a glucose unit or an oligosaccharide chain of 2 to 7 glucose units glycosidically linked .alpha.-1:4 inhibit glycoside-hydrolases of the digestive tract. A representative embodiment is O-{4,5-bisdesoxy-4-{1 S-[1,4,6/5)-4,5,6-tri- hydroxy-3-hydroxymethylcyclohex-2-en-1-ylamino]-.alpha.-D-gluco- pyranosyl}-(1?4)-O-.alpha.-D-glucopyranosyl-(1?4)-O-.alpha.-D-gluco- pyranosyl-(1?4)-D-glycopyranose. (R = 3 glucose units). In addition to this series of compounds, an iso- meric series of amino sugars for compounds having three or more glucose units are simultaneously produced by Actino- planacetes. The isomeric material having three glucose units is O-{4,6-bisdesoxy-4-{1 S-[1,4,6/5)-4,5,6-dihydroxy-3-hydroxy- methyl-4-O-.alpha.-D-glycopyranosyl-(1?4)-cyclohex-2-en-1-ylamino]- .alpha.-D-glycopyranosyl}-(1?4)-O-.alpha.-D-glucopyranosyl-(1?4)-D- glucopyranose.
